DURAMAZWI Mbira Ensemble, which is set to represent Zimbabwe at the ongoing Dubai Expo 2020, is leaving no stone unturned as they seek to enchant mbira music lovers and grow their brand.

The Mbare-based group, fronted by traditional healer Sarudzai Jaravaza, will represent the country at the expo, which kicked off on Friday.

Jaravaza is upbeat about the impending tour.

“We submitted our papers and anytime we are leaving for Dubai. We are using today’s event to fine-tune our act. We are going to perform at a very big platform and we cannot afford to disappoint,” said Jaravaza on the sidelines of a traditional event held last week.

Duramazwi is a 13-member ensemble that fuses mbira with traditional drums, gourds (hosho) and intricate dance moves.

The group recently released a seven-track album titled “Mavambo”.

“Chinyakare,” “Toisa Maoko” and “Musarasara” are some of the outstanding songs on the new album.

The album tackles various social issues, among them drug abuse and cultural erosion.
